Just a little bit about me:
An English as Second Language Teacher who loves going above and beyond to support and inspire ELLs.
Hola!
My name is Astrid Emily Francis, I was born in Guatemala and came to the U.S.A. at the age of 15. I am married to a wonderful and supporting man...David. I have two wonderful children, David is 22 and Hannah is 9. I am the oldest of five children ( I have three sisters and a brother). I adore my mother Leslie whose strength is the reason I am able to live my dream. This is my 11th year teaching ESL and my 19th year in Cabarrus County Schools. I teach at Concord High School in Concord, North Carolina. In this role I serve students 9th through 12th grade in various English proficiency levels. My experience as an English language learner inspired me to become an ESL teacher. I have a deep understanding of the challenges my students must overcome in order to find success. I go above and beyond my teaching responsibilities to build a school-community relationship in support of student learning. I earned a BA in Spanish, and an MAT in Teaching ESL from UNC-Charlotte. I've served as a professional development facilitator, motivational speaker for newly hired teachers, keynote speaker, ESL PLC lead, teacher liaison for Cabarrus County Board of Education as Teacher of the Year 2016, cooperating teacher, and mentor to beginning ESL teachers. I am also a board member for the Carolina TESOL. I am the author of If You Only Knew: Letters from an Immigrant Teacher - published by Seidlitz Education. As a leader, my motto and focus is to INSPIRE students to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more! |
